Citizen Action/Illinois endorses Ram Villivalam for State Senate

McNary cites Villivalam’s track record of fighting Bruce Rauner

Chicago (Mayfair) - Today, Democratic Candidate for State Senate Ram Villivalam (IL-8) announced the endorsement of the Citizen Action Illinois.

“Citizen Action/Illinois, the state’s largest public interest coalition, is proud to endorse Ram Villivalam for state senate in the 8th District,” said William McNary, Co-Director of Citizen Action/Illinois. “Ram has been fighting Bruce Rauner’s anti-worker ‘Turnaround Agenda’ for years, fighting for a $15 minimum wage, and leading the way on protecting our health care. He will be an effective and progressive voice in Springfield. Ram is the kind of leader who will hit the ground running in Springfield.”

“I am honored to have received the endorsement of Citizen Action Illinois,” said Democratic candidate for State Senate Ram Villivalam. “Citizen Action builds power through coalition, and that’s what my entire career in public service has centered on: bringing together a wide range of people and groups to tackle the biggest issues of our time. Issues like raising the minimum wage, making our outdated tax system fairer for middle class families, ensuring equitable education funding, and reducing gun violence. Building coalitions is how I worked as a union organizer, how I’m building my campaign, and what I look forward to doing in Springfield in order to be the progressive, effective representative the people of the 8th district deserve.”

Villivalam has also been endorsed by the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, U.S Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, U.S. Congressman Mike Quigley, U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis, U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Fmr. Gubernatorial Candidate & Alderman Ameya Pawar, State Senator Laura Murphy , State Senator Omar Aquino, State Representative Theresa Mah, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael Cabonargi, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Commissioner Josina Morita, the Illinois AFL-CIO, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, the Chicago Teachers Union, the UAW Illinois, Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers, Local 881 UFCW, SEIU Illinois State Council, National Nurses United, the National Association of Social Workers, Planned Parenthood, the Sierra Club, Citizen Action Illinois, Our Revolution Illinois, Reclaim Chicago, Equality Illinois PAC, Northside Democracy for America, and the Indo-American Democratic Organization.
