Illinois AFL-CIO Endorses Ram Villivalam for State Senate

President Carrigan cites Villivalam’s dedication to fighting for working people

Chicago (Mayfair) - Today, Democratic Candidate for State Senate and workers’ rights advocate Ram Villivalam (IL-8) announced the endorsement of the Illinois AFL-CIO.

“Ram has a deep understanding of the issues confronting working families,” said Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael T. Carrigan. “He has proven that he will be a strong advocate for workers in the Senate. Unions and working people are under constant attack from Bruce Rauner and his corporate agenda. We need allies like Ram Villivalam at the State Capitol.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Illinois AFL-CIO, which has been the shield for Illinois families against the attacks by Bruce Rauner and his billionaire buddies who want to strip workers of their wages and protections,” Villivalam said. “The labor movement is and should be a large part of the solution to a rigged economy and I will fight tirelessly in Springfield to be an effective voice for working families.”

Prior to the Illinois AFL-CIO endorsement, Villivalam already had strong backing from labor groups, including the UAW Illinois, Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers, UFCW Local 881, SEIU Illinois State Council, and National Nurses United.

Villivalam has also been endorsed by U.S Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, U.S. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Fmr. Gubernatorial Candidate & Alderman Ameya Pawar, State Senator Laura Murphy, State Representative Theresa Mah, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago Commissioner Josina Morita, Reclaim Chicago, Equality Illinois PAC, and the Indo-American Democratic Organization.
